Turfgrass Artificial Grass contributes to the 2011 Carakollection exhibition
If the "CowParade" cows set the trend of displaying sculptures in public places, now it is the turn of the “giant snails”, which will invade Alcoy’s Paseo de la Alameda (Alicante province) next week, providing space in their shells for local art.
The idea of local artists decorating large-scale sculpture is not new, with the Swiss cows of Walter Knapp (1998) recently being joined by the German bears of United Buddy Bears. Nonetheless, this innovative idea of bringing together art, public space and local ideas puts the collection at the forefront of the “new canvases”.
The “Carakollection”, the name given to this public exhibition of giant snails and mutants in Alcoy “is not an attempt to overshadow the CowParade cows, but to feed from the same grass: creativity, surprise, art and ingenuity.”
The 32 snails and their pictorial mutations are works by Alcoyan artists and craftspeople, like Antoni Miró, Jordi Sellés, Moisés Gil, Kike Santamaría, Ángeles Moyá and Ignacio Trelis, as well as students from the Art School and Polytechnic.
Their styles are reminiscent of Rococo, Pop, New Age and Baroque.
The giant snails of the Carakollection are displayed on Turfgrass Artificial Grass mats of different colours.
